Some PG E customers in the Bay Area could lose power Friday due to hot, dry and gusty weather. The potential Public Safety Power Shutoffs would primarily impact a rural area south of the Altamont Pass that includes part of Livermore and unincorporated Alameda County. PG E has warned 386 customers in that area that they could lose electricity starting Friday afternoon and may not have power restored until noon Sunday. A handful of customers in rural Napa County could also lose power. About 13 counties across California are facing similar warnings. PG E could shut off power because the weather is expected to be dry, gusty and unseasonably warm. Temperatures in Livermore are expected to climb above 80 degrees. The utility wants to prevent energized power lines from moving in the wind and potentially sparking a wildfire, as has happened in the past.
